Ed Pfiester leads a team of other lawyers, paralegals, investigators, and paraprofessionals who assist in working up the cases. He was born in Fort Stockton, Texas, where he attended grade and high school. He was elected student body president. Ed holds BBA Honors Plan and JD (Law) Degrees from the University of Texas at Austin. At UT Austin, he won the Best Moot Court brief award and also worked as a legislative aide for Texas Representative George Baker, among other jobs to help put himself through UT Law School.

The first two years after law school, Ed was honored to be chosen as U.S. District Court Crier Law Clerk to Federal Judge D.W. Suttle in El Paso and then Senior Law Clerk to Chief Federal Judge Albert Lee Stephens, Jr. in Los Angeles. He then began private law practice with what was the largest plaintiffs’ personal injury law firm west of the Mississippi. In 1980 he formed his own Los Angeles practice, R. Edward Pfiester, Jr., A Law Corporation.  All his private practice has been in courtroom law on behalf of injured individuals and the families of those killed.

A large part of Ed’s law practice consists of representing railroad workers under the Federal Employers Liability Act (FELA). Most of the major national rail unions have at one time or other appointed him as Designated Legal Counsel (DLC).

For over 25 years, he has been asked to speak at Continuing Legal Education seminars for trial lawyers in Texas and California, most recently at the national convention of the American Association of Justice (AAJ– formerly ATLA)  on “Litigating Commuter Railroad Cases: the Metrolink Disasters.” Trial judges appointed him Lead Plaintiffs’ Counsel for the 2008 Metrolink Chatsworth, CA disaster and to the Plaintiffs Steering Committee (PSC), as well as the 2005 Glendale and 2002 Placentia Metrolink disaster complex litigation PSCs.

Ed has authored peer reviewed articles, including: "Railroad Cases- Liability, Damages, Verdicts and Settlements under the FELA," 20 Texas Trial Lawyers Forum 3; "Liability, Damages and Settlements Under the FELA," 13 Los Angeles Trial Lawyers Advocate; "Railroad Cases Under the FELA," 9 Indiana Trial Lawyers Verdict 59, among others.

Ed is a member of the Bars of California, Texas, the United States Supreme Court, the 9th and 5th Circuit Court of appeals and numerous other federal courts.

He belongs to the California and Los Angeles Consumer Attorneys Bar Associations; The Association of Justice (formerly ATLA) (Member, Railroad Section, 1976 ); and was a founding member of the Academy of Rail Labor Attorneys (ARLA-Founding Officer, 1988; National Secretary, 1988 1989, 1993 1994; National Treasurer, 1992 1993; Board of Managers, 1988 1994).

Ed is also fluent in Spanish and enjoys fishing, boating, camping, river running and travel with his wife, Cyndy when he is  not working on a case for an injured client.
